FAQs

We regularly ask parents questions about our school. The most recent questionnaire was distributed in 2021. The results are shared below:

Can I take my child out of school for a holiday each year?

No. Absences in term time will only be authorised by the Headteacher in exceptional circumstances. An absence request form must be completed. A penalty notice will be issued for unauthorised absence that exceeds 5 days in one term or 7 days in two terms.

Can non-Catholics attend Alston Lane?

Yes. The school serves Roman Catholic children in the first instance but if places are available, any child can attend. Contact us for more details.

What does an 'Open door policy' mean?

This means that staff will always be happy to speak to parents at short notice. Class teachers can also be contacted via email, usinbg the following address: staff@alstonlane.lancs.sch.uk

When should we pay for our child's school dinners?

In advance each via ParentPay. Ideally school dinners and snack money should be paid for a half-term at a time. For children who have individual dinners, please also pay via ParentPay.

I have an issue to discuss. Whom should I contact?

Please contact the class teacher in the first instance by emailing staff@alstonlane.lancs.sch.uk. Alternatively, the Headteacher is always available for this purpose, each morning on the school playground.

How can I stay up-to-date with school information?

The school newsletter on the website is the best place to start. We also send text messages and emails to parents who have given us these details. Children sometimes bring letters home too, so please check their bags! The office staff are always happy to deal with your enquiries.

How often should my child receive homework and when should it be handed in?

Please look at our homework policy for details about each year group. Handing in days are set by the class teacher and children will often write these in their diaries. If you are unsure, please contact the class teacher.

Where can I buy book bags, PE bags and water bottles?

These can be bought from the school office. Please check with the office staff for up-to-date costs.

What footwear should my child wear for PE lessons?

Infants should always wear black PE pumps. Juniors may wear trainers for games lessons.
